Former fashion impresario Tom Ford directs this drama based on a short story by Christopher Isherwood. In a BAFTA-winning performance, Colin Firth stars as George Falconer, a middle-aged English professor in 1960s Los Angeles, who is grieving the recent death of his long-time partner Jim (Matthew Goode). The relationship between the two men is traced in a series of flashbacks. Meanwhile, over the course of a single day, George dwells on his past and his seemingly bleak future; seeks consolation from his closest friend, Charley (Julianne Moore); has an unexpected encounter with a Spanish prostitute (Jon Kortajarena); and is stalked by over-enthusiastic student Kenny (Nicholas Hoult).

Before Elvis, before Elton John, Madonna and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace--infamous pianist, outrageous entertainer and flamboyant star of stage and television. A name synonymous with showmanship and extravagance, he lit up every stage he performed on, as bright as his candelabras and with a unique flair that gained him millions of devoted fans across the globe.
In the summer of 1977, handsome young stranger Scott Thorson walked into Liberace’s dressing room and, despite their age difference and seemingly different worlds, the two embarked on a secretive five-year love affair. To the outside world Scott was an employee, at most a friend, but behind closed doors his life with Liberace was an intense rollercoaster of hedonistic fun, flamboyance and excess.
Starring Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as Scott Thorson, Behind The Candelabra tells the fascinating true story of their glamorous life together and their tempestuous relationship--from the glitz and glamour of the early days in Las Vegas to their very bitter and public break-up.

Drama from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ang Lee starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger. Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963, and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection, one whose complications, joys, and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love. Both young men seem certain of their set places in the heartland, obtaining steady work, marrying, and raising a family. Yet, they both hunger for something beyond what they can articulate. When Aguirre (Randy Quaid) dispatches them to work as sheepherders up on the majestic Brokeback Mountain, they gravitate towards camaraderie and then a deeper intimacy. Lee won a Best Director Academy Award.
'A bit overrated in my opinion and I struggled to hear what Heath Ledger was mumbling half the time.' At least it was good to see a 'gay storyline movie' being so high profile in cinemas and Hollywood that year.

John Waters expands the definition of female trouble in this mutant tribute to good-girl-gone-bad drive-in melodramas. The girl is, of course, cross-dressing cult icon Divine, Waters's plus-sized muse. Divine is at her most gleefully outrageous as teenage brat Dawn Davenport, who runs away from home and into a life of wanton hedonism all because she didn't get cha-cha heels for Christmas. Almost immediately she's molested by a sleazy motorcycle thug (also played by Divine--is this Waters's idea of "love thyself"?), but she doesn't let motherhood interfere with her plans of stardom and turns herself into an unlikely fashion statement in an apocalyptic fashion show. Waters's fourth feature, a follow-up to the midnight movie hit Pink Flamingos, is just as cinematically primitive and even more gleefully vulgar, right down to the electric climax of Dawn's road to everlasting fame.
